Opening a coffin and taking a 'selfie' with the guest of honour might be considered disrespectful (or a good laugh with right person!).

(Thinking back to a CSI programme where they took a dead friend out on a night out so he didn't miss the fun!)

It was a celebration as much as a memorial . The atmosphere was not sombre, and no one listened to the politicians anyway. Except to boo their own President, which he well deserves.

The fake signer was obviously a blow to any deaf folk, and i can see why it would offend, but equally i am sure i have had a few emails from that guy, something to do with £10 million....

Mr Mandela was a famously mischievous man, with a keen sense of humour, and i doubt he would be offended by seeing the pic with Cameron, Obama and Mrs Kinnock junior.

Not all British wakes are sombre occasions especially once the alcohol flows!

A non-story because the press have to fill column inches!

The 'signer' randomly flapping his arms about is much more interesting! There was an interview of a radio station with him. It seems because he has signed at other important events it was OK even if he was the only one to understand what he was 'saying'.

Judging by his TV interview he makes no more sense when he speaks than signs!

What annoys me is not their behaviour but the behaviour of the media using a man's memorial to whip up a political storm. That is disgraceful. Having a few photos taken at a memorial celebration is not in any poor taste. People were dancing in the streets. It was a fun occasion not a somber one, and anybody who has witnessed the carnival like atmosphere of an African funeral would appreciate that.

I agree with Martin. It is likely that Mandela would have liked for his funeral to be about ´celebrating´his life, rather than spending 10 days crying.

I have read some papers where it says that Michelle wasn´t actually bothered about this at all. Simply some journalists found a few seconds where she wasn´t smiling and the rest of the group was.

I don't think Nelson Mandela would want it to be a solemn affair and if it wasn't actually in the middle of a speech I see no disrespect, after all its all been rather chaotic so far . BTW does anyone one know what the impostor signer was saying or was he just waving his arms about randomly?
