A new on on me so I thought I would ask what others do?

Thank-you

Re: Nurse benefits

Then here's another thought which has just occurred to me;
If a staff member leaves after 7 years you have to pay them out their long service leave pro-rata. a good reason to stick it out as this 8.67 weeks is in addition to your annual leave then taken.
It seems to me that if you don't like your job, there's a good incentive there to stick it out for nine years and ten months and then leave: you still get, in effect, your extra holiday and you also get your pro-rata pay in lieu, 8.52 weeks' worth.

Re: Nurse benefits
We don't tend to do that in Australia but they do have long service leave here. After 10 years service you can have 8 2/3 weeks holiday, then again every 5 years after that of continuous employment. If a staff member leaves after 7 years you have to pay them out their long service leave pro-rata. a good reason to stick it out as this 8.67 weeks is in addition to your annual leave then taken.
I find this strange. I'm all for motivation, rewards, showing you value your staff, and so on, but why should it be dictated by law? I find the idea of paying long-service pro rata for the employee who leaves after seven years particularly weird: if they were only there seven years it wasn't long service, was it?

PS. How the ** do you calculate 0.67 weeks? 4.69 days, that would be? Maybe 26.8 hours? 26 hours and 48 minutes? I hope nobody sneaks off early and gets 50 minutes.

Re: Nurse benefits

We don't tend to do that in Australia but they do have long service leave here. It was a small place but some staff were there a long time. I felt it was a nice touch and some reward for loyalty. Clients also don't like a high staff turnover and although I don't think one extra days holiday would make anyone stay in a job if they were thinking of leaving it is a nice little extra that maybe shows you appreciate your staff loyalty.

Re: Nurse benefits

We reward longevity/tolerance of the bosses with increased holiday entitlement - an additional week after 5 years service and another after ten.

However the holiday rota is becoming far more difficult to manage with staff with so many additional weeks to fit in. But better that problem than a constant turnover of staff...
