The Chikosi case had a pretty rubbish outcome but I'm sure it would have been vastly different if he had remained in the country and defended himself. And RCVS have distanced themselves from the "blanket-ban" nonsense.

... wot Martin A. said really. Unless you know you've really done something wrong (in which case I'm assuming you wouldn't have posted the question), it's unlikely to come to anything. The preliminary investigation committee usually throws out the vexatious stuff long before it gets to DC.

If you are insured with VDS they give invaluable advise and reassurance about RCVS complaints...

Check RCVS website, and read recent DC hearing reports. They will show date of alleged offence and date of hearing.

Ian and I have had one complaint each - time scale depends on when the next time the PIC meets. I think it did take up to 4 months for the cases to be dealt with (from first letter to final 'no case to send to DC' letter). As neither got past the PIC I don't know how long a full DC hearing would take but I suspect 1-2 years is likely!

Hope it is a spurious complaint - most are. Whatever it is, try not to worry. It won't help!

No idea I am afraid as yet never had to go through the process. I would second Martins comments about worrying. If you feel you have behaved reasonably (even if things went horribly wrong!) then you should have little to worry about.

Spurious complaints (and those about fees) are going to be dealt with at a lower level, hopefully with more common sense than some of the rather odd decisions by the DC recently.

I am sure your indemnity insurance people will guide you through the whole process!

First thing I would say is that unless you know you've done something really bad then stop worrying because nothing will probably come from it. I have had 4 complaints in 38 years and they all came to nothing. They were all just indignant clients who made spurious complaints because the outcome of their pet's treatment didn't fit their unreasonable expectations. All these were resolved in my favour within a couple of weeks of me sending my response.
