Make your car distinctive by your number plate.
Draw attention to your car and any signage you have on it to increase awareness.
Hide the age of your car!

It's amazing the way a personal number plate can alter people's perception of you

Re: For Sale: 50 VET car registration £4500 ono
You have insulted people (I wonder if your opinions would have been so forthright if the OP had been called Annabel Smith) and then say that.
I like odd number plates, they are fun and actually pretty common nowadays. Be proud of your achievements and show off a little if you wish (with a degree of discretion). Excessive boasting will impress nobody and will make you look a prat.

Someone may be acting in a way you disapprove of, but if it does no harm to others, or to themselves (though that may be very difficult to judge sometimes), what business is it of yours to tell them. I would put personal number plates in this category, I can't imagine ever having one myself, and I may sometimes think 'what a waste of money' when I see one on someone's car, but as long as they're putting bread on the table, what business is it of mine how they spend their disposable income?

No, not a dig. A sincerely held belief.
surely it is worse to look down your nose at someone privately, you should have the courage to say it and let them respond, defend or change themselves. There are many things about people which are unfortunate and cannot be changed and no-one should look down at them but if someone is being a plonker they should be told whether they want to change or not then is their choice.
I couldn't possibly disagree with you more. For two fundamental reasons. First, what makes you or me the arbiter of what others need to respond to, defend or change about themselves? I'm not that self-confident!

Secondly, I've always believed that good manners or 'class' are about whether you treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. Being a 'gentleman' is more about being a gentle man than the cut of your suit.

So for that reason, I tend not to go around telling people they are plonkers. If I think it, I keep it amongst close friends.

Re: For Sale: 50 VET car registration £4500 ono
Aaaahhhhhhh............
But then again, I would argue that classier still is not (in public anyway), looking down your nose at people who are not.
Not sure if that's a dig but surely it is worse to look down your nose at someone privately, you should have the courage to say it and let them respond, defend or change themselves. There are many things about people which are unfortunate and cannot be changed and no-one should look down at them but if someone is being a plonker they should be told whether they want to change or not then is their choice.

Interesting - my experience is the exact opposite.

I've always found that those who make the most effort to make an impression are the people who are least confident.

I think I rather tend to agree with your observation that true class comes from being anonymously comfortable in your own boots.

But then again, I would argue that classier still is not (in public anyway), looking down your nose at people who are not.

Re: For Sale: 50 VET car registration £4500 ono

The number plate on my car is not primarily for business, it was not bought as an investment and is on a recent car. I don't care that much how old my car is as long as it is comfortable and reliable and can get me up the track in the winter. The previous car died screaming in protest!

I change cars only when forced to as I am not particularly car proud and cannot see the point in trading in a perfectly functional vehicle. The number plate is a bit of fun and has gone up in value (apparently!) reasonably well.

I have to admit I would not spend a lot of money on an expensive personalised number plate but like the one I have! I am not rich and success is in the eye of the beholder and appearances are not something I lose sleep over.

A lottery win would be rather nice though!

Re: For Sale: 50 VET car registration £4500 ono
Not sure I see the link between a number plate and self-esteem. My number plate is a bit of fun,
Well those with a personalised plate wouldn't say this wouldn't they as they're in denial!

You can't say its just a bit of fun to be displaying something which is clearly intended to be seen by others and make a statement about yourself, it is however you look at it a form of self-aggrandisement. Those who display their peacock's feathers and give ostentatious displays of their wealth/prestige are often self confident and have a high opinion of themselves but you can be wealthy and successful without trying to tell the whole world, I'll confess there was a time when I considered having a personalised plate, wore designer clothes and displayed other signs of wealth to show people I was rich and successful, but now I've grown up, am at ease with myself and my position in the greater scheme of things and I realise that it shows true class to be anonymous. I have expensive possessions but they are for my pleasure only, I don't have to advertise to the world. Have an expensive car by all means if it gives you pleasure but don't anyone tell me that a personalised plate on it is primarily for business or investment or that putting one on an old car is anything other than being ashamed not to be driving around in a new one.

Re: For Sale: 50 VET car registration £4500 ono
alternatively, add a dimension of mystery and intrigue surrounding it - perhaps some unidentified blood (varnish might do) splattered over one plate without explanation:
Lol, I'm not sure a bit of "blood" on one of the plates would necessarily be a good idea - someone might think I've been drumming up business!!

Hehe!

i'm not the arty-type, but I'm sure what you need is a really good story to go with it - that seems to work for art - perhaps a story of a daring or exciting vet-adventure where, but for the numberplate, all would have been lost?

alternatively, add a dimension of mystery and intrigue surrounding it - perhaps some unidentified blood (varnish might do) splattered over one plate without explanation: if you play your cards right, you won't need the number for the Tate - they'll call you!

My number plate is a bit of fun, nobody knows if my car is old or new (not that people seem to be that bothered!). It has been a fair investment financially but it was quite cheap to buy in the first place!

Sounds like some anti-VET plate people have a bit of a problem!
