Competition is quite fierce around here, with practices trying to price match and see who can be cheapest.
I am considering a 'budget' protocol to offer those clients that want cheap rather than WSAVA compliant

Re: Which microchip is cheapest?

We use Pet-ID (http://www.pet-works.net/); staff are friendly and helpful; good price negotiated

I am happy to go cheap but not cheap and nasty!

I gather they can be registered on one of the 'better' databases.

Waiting to hear back from Animalcare - would like to stick to Identichip. I suspect many will wish to upgrade to the biothermo chips anyway.

They seem to work fine, I usually see at least 70% of the microchipped badgers back the following year (in the traps).

We use the Identichip and used to get them from the office at list. Through the rep saved a fortune. Now through our buying group even less. Same chips.

There are anecdotal reports that these fail frequently and the database is unreliable and at that price there has to be a catch one of which is no doubt bombardment from PetProtect to take out their insurance. But I found a use for them: I have a client who has loads of anatomical specimens and he wanted to catalogue them with microchips so I got him a load at cost. Meanwhile I will remain loyal to Animalcare and also continue to recommend BioThermo chips.
