If it helps any, I went to HK when I was 3 months qualified. Was in at the deep end! There's a few things you see a LOT of that you don't see much/any of in UK (tick fever, heartworm, FIP, distemper off the top of my head) but mostly same same. Just not so many staffies! (well none!) Most of the clinics work to a pretty high standard and you always have a translator/vet nurse in your consult with you! If you are prepared to put a bit of effort in learning about the new things you'd be fine. Great thing about somewhere like SPCA is there's always other vets around if you're stuck. Social life is great! :-)

[/quote]Don't sell yourself short - small animal medicine has variations in local disease patterns, but it's a matter of learning the local drugs and bugs. :) scary for the first few months and then it's "just like Beggars' Canyon back home!" (Sorry, i can rarely resist a Star Wars reference!)

Try the SPCA in WanChai. Its pretty busy and they are very used to having students/vets seeing practice. Easy to get to cos near Causeway Bay/WanChai. I worked in HK for nearly 10 years in quite a few clinics feel free to contact me for a heads up!

I saw that. If I was looking for a permanent job right now and had no ties to the UK I might well have tried my luck. I've visited here a couple of times now and I have some connections (my dad grew up here and my aunties and cousins born and grew up here).
