What was the situation? I can't see anything wrong with suggesting an owner gives some bute they have for another animal if it seems clinically necessary.
I know this was only a story but I fail to see where the problem is for the animal being given bute originally prescribed for another horse. The use was on the recommendation of the vet ie: verbally prescribing bute. Where that bute comes from seems pretty unimportant to me as long as it is legally obtained, used under veterinary supervision, is in date etc. etc.

Transferring POM medicines between owners is far more of a problem than transferring one patient to another (on veterinary advice!).

Re: R4 play/RCVS hearing

We all know this is a fictional drama not factual, right?

Re: R4 play/RCVS hearing
Secondly, I would have found a veterinary surgeon who told an owner to use medication originally prescribed for another animal guilty-maybe warning for those inclined to be lax in control of how POM(V) s are dipensed
No surprise - trainers and owners of horses have forced vets to dance to their tune for ages, only to sell them down the river at the drop of a hat or a disputed bill. Don't do what they say? You might never work at the stable again.

Re: R4 play/RCVS hearing

PS to above Clinical inaccuracy-some metacarpal fractures can be plated

Debate on homeopathy much as expected-is it medication or not?

I thought 4 interesting points came up.

Firstly, it started with male defendant ruishing out of the room, saying he was about tobe sick-then conversation between him and female defence barrister. I couldn't helpwondering exactly where he was being sick. In foyer, and reception staff would be (shall we say ) displeased. In gents loo, and total consternation amongst male members of DC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Secondly, I would have found a veterinary surgeon who told an owner to use medication originally prescribed for another animal guilty-maybe warning for those inclined to be lax in control of how POM(V) s are dipensed

Thirdly, the defendant, although cleared of the original charges, condemned himself (under oath ) of false certification, but it would be the owner/trainer, not the veterinary surgeon who would fill in the Wetherby's form.

Fourthly-moral of the tale-make sure you,not the owners are in charge.

Quite frankly, the only human in the whole sorry tale I had any sympathy for was the groom-even though he lied under oath. Obviously I had enormous sympathy for poor "Elusive Alice" who paid with her life for the criminality of humans who had charge of her welfare.

Owner was a bully, and bullied trainer

Trainer was a bully, and bullied veterinary surgeon

Veterinary surgeon was a wimp

For me I have on the one hand - homeopathy [very interesting] but, on the other, horses [yawn]. I'm looking forward to hearing it.

Was any member of this, entirely fictitious, governing body a practicing homeopath by any chance?
