Far too complicated and expensive so the only person that will be able to listen to music will be the cleaner. She is on her own in an empty building.

Interestingly there are a number of pieces of software that can trawl the web looking for use of a particular image, so a good warning to all to be sure of where their web artwork is coming from

I would have ignored it until now and told them, that if its being listened to privately and the public couldn't hear, go and perform an anatomically impossibly sexual act upon yourself! However since having just had to fork out £600 compensation to Getty Images for using a picture I downloaded off Google on my website without realising it was copywrited I may not be so gung-ho in future.

If they listen on headphones then it is private listening, if it is played aloud where others can hear then a licence is needed.

But what about the people who listen on headphones, but so loudly that others can hear it? Could they all be forced to get a licence?

As far as shops, bars, restaurants, waiting rooms etc (i.e. public areas) then they can just walk in and have a listen.

Private areas - e.g. op room, kennels, staffroom more difficult. Like TV Licensing most of enforcement on this side seems to be done through stern letters and people's honesty, and they do also share information with other licensing bodies.

Musicians get paid when their music is broadcast on the wireless. Should they get paid again when people listen to it?

Suppose a nurse brings a radio in and plays it nominally for herself?

Suppose I bring a radio in and play it for myself and everyone else hates it?

It's all academic to me, I make me own entertaiment...............

TBH I see the radio as them advertising their work. Without it I wouldn't hear of any I like and wouldn't buy any albums or go to any concerts.

If you don't feel that having music playing is worth it, then get rid of the radio and don't bother with a licence. If you believe in the benefit/value of such music playing, then pay your contribution. We expect to be paid for our work, why should musicians not?

We have one (prs) as we play a radio in the prep room, which could be also audible tomthenpublic in the waiting room. I have a feeling you should have one even if only your staff hear it though. I can't remember the exact cost but I think it's about £50 per annum. Just watch it isn't a letter from a third party who will charge commission to get yor licence, I'm sure I've heard of a scam like that at some point. I can't honestly remember of we also have a ppl licence - must check!
