Every year I mean to cancel BVA and every year I forget, It is just about justified by In Practice but little else. Still a member of BSAVA, its useful for discounted CPD. Just wishing I cold find a way of cancelling RCVS membership and keep working!

I found I do much better for private health insurance by doing my own research than thro' the BVA scheme - ditto house/car insurance. I do find 'Vet Record' a bit more interesting these day than it used to be - general interest bits and bobs at the back - 'In Practice' is always excellent. Also there is a lot of v useful stuff/resources on the BVA website - only available to members.

Best one is BSAVA once you reach the grand old age of 60 - very reduced annual fee and vv reduced Congress fees. Agree JSAP is generally a bit too esoteric for me - and don't see a lot of point in their 'Companion' journal.

Ah yes, most of them are electronic. The rest you can join a mail circulation where a hard copy is sent out free of charge. They will also post books out, am unsure if there's a charge for this. It's truly fabulous value for money. You can join at a practice rate as well I think giving everyone access.

I do keep thinking about that but worry that I wont get as much benefit living 200+ miles away from the library.

I have let all of mine go. I was in BVA, and graduate rep, but was severely disillusioned by the profligacy with which members' money is spent - foreign trips, MP meetings etc. BSAVA I have let slip this year because I didn't make congress and I haven't used any of the CPD or other member benefits. Instead, I am a member of the RCVS Library which for ~£80/yr gives you access to most/all of the journals I need.

I have been in BVA since student days but seriously considered cancelling this year. I renewed but am not convinced I will do again. I was a member of BVZS for 10 years until it changed focus towards wildlife and drove quite a few private practitioners away. I wa made to feel less and less welcome over the years. Never been in BSAVA unless I want to do a big book order. Not sure I get value for money from any of them. We are in the RWA and I do feel it is worth the cost £40 something. Not sure how much business it brings it but worth a punt at that price. Also in SPVS to get discounted congress.

I am not a member of any ( I am also a locum)but don't feel I am missing out - if I was going to pick one it would be BSAVA - esp if you go to congress
