However, I have a rescue dog and cat and would lke to get them insured.
Can you let me know who you think is best?
I hate to say it- he looks like

Re: best insurance company?

Petplan every time.

Re: best insurance company?
I understand Petplan do significant discounts for vets own animals
But make sure if the staff get a discount, petplan aren't being charged the standard rate

Re: best insurance company?

I understand Petplan do significant discounts for vets own animals

Re: best insurance company?
But as with any policy read the small print. We've had a few clients been stung because they hadn't realised their £4000 per year vet fee limit is £1000 per condition for up to 4 conditions....
Surely it was their budget policy - even Pet Plan have one of those people have been caught out with.

Tesco are quick payers but tend to nit-pick and although their policies are for life and don't exclude on renewal their limit on each condition is a total for that condition not an annual one. Pet Plan as always are good but they have lost their shine a bit with me recently being rather slow to settle. M&S seem good all-round players as they are in all their enterprises and I've had no issues with Saga, Sainsbury's or MoreThan.

Re: best insurance company?

We can discuss anything we like within reason. E+L and AnimalFriends come in for regular slating here.

Direct Line a pain in the a*se because they dictate maximums they will pay for some procedures. Also can be painfully slow to pay.

Cannot support insurance companies that push internet drug purchases knowing that the prescription charge will be paid by the client. Just saving themselves money whilst costing the client more!

Personal experience for basic insurance has been that Tesco have been impressive. Pretty quick, good communication (regular text messages) and realistic premiums.

Pet Plan have introduced a 20% client contribution plus XS for older pets which can be a bit of a shock for the unwary!

Steer clear of the price comparison websites as they seem to push poorer policies at high prices!

Hopefully no specific insurance policy advice given above (all based on personal experience!). If not see someone in court!!!

Re: best insurance company?

I would have thought on a closed board it would be ok...

Which? and Money Advice websites provide good summaries of various policy types, Which? compiles up-to-date comparison tables of levels of cover/premiums/excesses. www.insureyourpet.co.uk has a 'league table' of insurance companies based on ratings.

I chose petplan for my own dog....I also remember speaking to a vet who had found an insurance company that gave them cashback each year for proof of vaccination (I think it was around £35 or so) which nicely covered a few months premiums! I can't remember which company it was now though.
