Those of you who have read Arlo's last newsletter might have seen SPVS are running a survey to get an idea of what vets who are NOT SPVS members think of the Society. We've already had 130 completions- and for those who've completed so far

Re: Take SPVS survey - win a prize

Sorry I'm not soar, predictive texting, fat fingers on a train to Scotland for 2 days Acid-Base balance CPD, that's where my choice lies

Re: Take SPVS survey - win a prize
We'd like to have more vets who are not involved in the owning or running of practices as members
Dear Colin
My one and only published letter in the veterinary record 12 years ago pointed out that to be a vet, we need to pay the RCVS and CPD costs. No distiction is made between full time and part timers. In effect with CPD at about £30/hour earnt leads to a bill just to stay legal at £1500.
Therefore choices have to be made.
Part time working is increasing and wages are static,so the need to look soar this is more urgent than ever

Again on Council, but not an Officer. She didn't put her workplace on there because she wanted her membership of SPVS Council to be considered on a personal basis - she doesn't want to be viewed as a representative of her employer, as I understand it.

We are a non clinical focused organisation. A lot of what we do is aimed at the organisational level - by default almost because that's where we've found activities which are within our capabilities and effective remedies to practice problems. However we set out to do what we can to help all vets in practice. We'd like to have more vets who are not involved in the owning or running of practices as members.

What do you mean by "actively practising veterinary surgeons" - do you mean doing clinical work?

I don't think Adi Nell (Medivet) does any clinical work any more. Tom Flynn (Goddards) still does. Nick Ackworth (Pet Doctors) isn't an Officer - he's on Council and I'm not sure of his status regarding clinical work.

Who is the other manager of the unnamed group?

Colin

By actively practising I mean doing actual clinical work at the coalface, as most of us are.

Catherine Brown. It is unclear on your website what her role is a the moment.

not really criticising, just curious.

Re: Take SPVS survey - win a prize

What do you mean by "actively practising veterinary surgeons" - do you mean doing clinical work?

They are still in practice - so, yes indeed, SPVS.

Most of the officers and council members are partners in private practice, and a quick look finds 4 corporate ones; senior Medivet partner, manager of PetDoctors, director of the Goddard group, and another manager of an unnamed group.
