However, I have a client who has just had a claim refused by Tesco (who have in my recent experience taken over from PetPlan as the pre-eminent company) on the grounds that the pyrexia it suffered from a cat bite wound last summer before she took out the policy is the same as the pyrexia of unknown origin it suffered last month. I suspect this is a case of a 'jobsworth' with no medical knowledge spotting the word pyrexia, putting two and two together and making five, and that the nice letter from me will solve the problem, but here's waiting.

Re: Insurance companies not paying up again

I think the real issue here is some Petplan telephone person being a little overzealous about trying to deny a claim - in my experience Petplan is the least likely company to behave this way. Dental cover is a tricky area to cover, something as simple as the client failing to have a recommended scale and polish would blow it out of the water

in addition it is worth noting that Petplan is the only pet insurance company that will cover such dental work routinely.

I make a point of commenting on teeth at booster time, also other examination times, and record advice given - this because of a problem a colleague had with a client who insisted they had never been told their dog needed a dental, and no mention of teeth at several previous boosters

The final take home point is that if an insurance company is behaving unfairly, complain, and threaten to use the ombudsman, and keep the threat. They usually cave in at that point if the claim is being unfairly denied.

Re: Insurance companies not paying up again

I find it hard to beliee that the terms of the policy are written nowhere in the policy.

Re: Insurance companies not paying up again

My cat is insured with PP. This '12 monthly check' - he obviously doesn't get an 'official' or charged-for check over every year but I give him a check over at his booster. I wonder if they'll ever argue the case if I ever have to claim for dental work
