I am learning fast about this forum thanks to those who provide constructive feedback and appropriate orientation.

Yes I have just launched a unique e-learning course to help non-UK vets learn how the UK system works. I worked as a vet in the UK for 15 years, 10 of which I had my own practice. Then I spend another 5 learning how Europe works. The last 3 yers I have been developing this course with lots of help from many people such as the RCVS, VDS and Onswitch. They all understood the need for someone to explain the differences non-UK vets will find when they come to the UK.

It is a 60 hour course although most people takes longer as they do the different modules over and over. All screens have audio in UK english, for those who don´t want to understand it was recorded in a audio studio by two British speakers and all the contenst have been revised by a british linguist

It covers social integration, code of professional conduct (explained), medicines legislation, H&S, client care and communication, teamwork and productivity, etc.

Many doing the course will realise that the UK is not for them before they come and waist part of their life (and others´) and those who come will integrate much faster and with lets trouble.

Thank you for asking...before shooting

Re: Non-UK Vets
Freevet, it's considered bad form to star your own posts (it shows in the post scoring system, I'm afraid).
JHL, is there something I am missing somewhere. The only way to tell who has starred a post (whether their own or someone else's) is to get my techies to query our database using some very obscure programming language. So you can't possibly know whether Luis has awarded himself any points (though I doubt it).

As Gillian said, the only way to know how many people have starred your post is to star it yourself. From time to time, I do it myself if I want to know what the strength of feeling is about what I have said (was it just one person who thinks I'm an idiot, or 50). So I am never the first to rate myself!

Luis, above each post is a box with five stars. You can click on the number of stars you want to award a post. 1 means bad. 5 means great. The box displays the average of how everyone has rated a post.

Re: Non-UK Vets
Freevet, it's considered bad form to star your own posts (it shows in the post scoring system, I'm afraid).
eh? It appears you have access to information none of the rest of us have?

As far as I can see, starring your own post is the only way to then see the number of people who have ranked the post - no?

I'll ask Arlo.....

Re: Non-UK Vets

Hi Luis!!!

Nice to meet you, and glad to see someone else from my country.

You have a few stars in your posts. You can rate any post according to the interest or the value. Another intresting part is the number of posts.

Are you planing to start any kind of bussines?

I am new to this platform though. Would you be so kind to explain what you mean? I am not familiar wit the scoring system.

Could it be a good example of what is happening to the profession in the UK? One part does not know what is expected of them, the other part is unable to explain it. Can it be helped?

Re: Non-UK Vets

Freevet, it's considered bad form to star your own posts (it shows in the post scoring system, I'm afraid). It therefore needs to be explained

Of course I am not English, I am one of those who adapted and accepted the UK standards over the years. However English will always be my second language and never as good as yours if it is what you mean. However being aware of my weakness the many hours of audio have been recorded at a studio by a british person. I also made sure that all contents were revised by a british linguist. This means that those vets completing the course will be able to understand English to a reasonable level avoiding one of the many problems that are currently arising with many non-UK vets.

Thank you for your feedback which I hope to continue receiving.

Re: Non-UK Vets

From the website:
Important: Please remember that the course and all its contents are provided in UK English. This has an added value as you will become familiar with the vocabulary and expressions you will come accross in a daily basis when you are working as a vet in the UK.
(no offense, I found this bit ironic, somehow!)
