Quite - the RMB movement, like many others, relies on an alleged evil cabal which is supposedly against it in order to promote group cohesion and so that members have something to rail at and blame when stuff goes wrong. It's much more comforting to see the world in black and white, goodies and baddies, like we all used to when we were children. In the case of RMB the cabal is us - normal vets - so that makes it ok to abuse and slander us; we don't promote RMB ergo we are corrupt, ignorant and cruel. Yet when vets make money from selling BARF-type diets or selling books promoting RMB that is somehow ok. As you say, double standards; a classic example of cognitive dissonance.

From a personal point of view, having debated RMB'ers - and despite their rather defensive, or in some cases downright aggressive, tone - I am much more laid back about things when people tell me they feed raw. It is perfectly possible for a dog to live to a ripe old age while being fed RMB. The movement as a whole though is in denial about the risks that do exist, and about the inconvenience of providing such a diet. As long as people understand the risks then the decision is theirs as far as I'm concerned these days.

When it comes to the "evils of kibble" though, that's when we truly step into the realms of fantasy.

Cheers,

Wikipedia… humph!
Well, this is where most people are likely to go if they are looking for information. We suspect that the article has been written by the PR department of a major dog food manufacturer. It pretends to be fair and even handed but the truth is… it isn’t. Still, useful background and an example of how clever the £1 billion dog food industry are at protecting their interests. Imagine if dog owners were to discover how processed dog food adversely affects their pet’s health! Imagine if they learned what actually goes into processed dog food (even the expensive stuff)!
www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raw_feeding

Even if it's just free pet food for my dog.

And we definately get ALOT of nutrition lectures at uni. About feeding for normal dogs, and for specialist diets for certain disease processes (so says the pile of notes someone collected for me when I stayed in bed after seeing a nutrition day... oops)

In principal, I've got nothing against RAW/RMB/BARF or whatever diets. I've met a few clients who have their animals on them and are very happy with the way things are going; I'm not going to tell them they're wrong and go back to kibbles.

What I do have a massive problem with. however, is the people that make these diets telling me I'm wrong, uneducated and on the take.
