I know vets don't dispense there, but is this really true, my googling has drawn a blank - anyone with experience of vet practice in Denmark

Re: Cost of pet wormers in Denmark
Personally, I would have thought the zoonotic risk is the much greater. Have the Danes looked at their kid's eyes.
If I remember rightly, visceral larva migrans is more common than ocular larva migrans, but more is heard of about ocular problems because of blindness. People having a grumbling stomach for a few months isn't as newsworthy, or hard-hitting enough to get people to worm their pets regularly

Re: Cost of pet wormers in Denmark
The study in Ireland was scary - remarkable number of lesions due to migrating toxacara larvae, only some causing clinical visual impairment. I guess if you don't look for a problem, you don't know its extent.

that might as well be true. And what I said was nothing near to anything scientifical. Fecal samples are a problem because eggs are shedded intermittently, so I wouldn't necessarily expect to find eggs in a single sample even if worms are present. I would feel much safer if I had multiple samples (let's say over three days) to look at. Re the eyes of Danish children: I spent a good deal of my holidays in Denmark and have even made some Danish friends over the years, so far I haven't heard of any issues and I am always very impressed how calm and caring Danish parents are compared to the Germans (if you hear someone shout at their child on the campsite it's almost always in German ...)

Re: Cost of pet wormers in Denmark
risk
There is more info in the ESCCAP guidelines which you might find useful. http://www.esccap.org/uploads/docs/nkzqxmxn_esccapgl1endoguidelines.pdf

They have a medicine handling fee (app 5 Euros), that was already included in the cat's price but not in the dog's price, we don't charge that if we dispense directly, but if we write a prescription as they do in Denmark we charge the same.
