Well done nonetheless for supporting such a worthy cause, its a pity we cannot have such an impact on the root cause of the need for a sanctuary in the first place. Sorry for being such a sceptic but you know that such scepticism is justified

PS You will see that I've changed my Lance Armstrong quote to a signature that is a bit less divisive, more for a change rather than because of the fall of its originator, the quote whoever thus spake is nonetheless relevant.

Dear Mark (Atkinson),

You do not speak untruths, however that seems very defeatist. Call it realism, call it inaction resulting from your resignedness at the horror of the human condition and greed. But, surely there must be a nugget of optimism and/or altruism that will direct you to try to make a difference, no matter how tiny or fruitless that effort may seem? I do hope so! So, perhaps encouraged by this (and me...), if you haven't signed, please change your heart-set and do so???

I agree with your comments, but every little helps.

I'm heading out to the Chengdu centre in December, the work this charity does both; for the bears and the education of animal care and welfare is amazing.

by sharing this petition it is also helping to raise awareness of the issue.

I doubt the efficacy of the petition-but signed because I couldn't bear to think that I'd failed to meke a protest when there was even the faintest chance it might have worked As to hypocriy-agreed but 2 wrongs can't ever make a right

I would sign if I thought it would make a blind bit of difference but sadly it would seem from what you say that there is another far more powerful agenda. In this part of the world corruption and self interest monumentally over-ride conservation and animal welfare and pieces of paper with even countless numbers of anonymous signatures count for little. But who are we to judge the actions of others? Don't get me wrong, destruction of natural flora and fauna in the developing world makes my blood boil but as our ancestors have destroyed 90% of the indigenous forest and wildlife of our own small island in the interests of their betterment and profit, the populations of countries we now strive to influence in the management of their own resources could justifiably use the word hypocrisy.
