I'm sorry you feel annoyed - I do appreciate the situation was not ideal. Unfortunately when a relationship ends, things can get messy.

I can't speak for Medichem, but I can give you the facts: Tristel manufactured Trigene and owned the formulation, it was resold through Medichem, the relationship has now ended and we are unable to use the name but still manufacture exactly the same formulation, just with the new name of Anistel.

As the formulation hasn't changed, Anistel contains exactly what it did when it was Trigene.

Dear Rachel

I know that what annoyed me was that neither you nor Medichem would tell us, either jointly or separately, what exactly was going on. Instead we had each of you dropping dark hints about the other and each company insisting that they were the only true heir.

As one who knows a tiddy bit about disinfectants, I'm also baffled as to why neither of you will say very prominently exactly what is in your products.

Rachel - if you left the bloody names alone then we wouldn't have this confusion, and I wouldn't be cleaning the tables with Anusol that just won't dissolve in water.......

Hi Michael

I'm afraid that's not the case. Anistel = Trigene - Anigene is a completely different formulation.

To give a bit of background, Tristel Solutions manufactured Trigene for resale through Medichem up until early last year. The business relationship ended, and while neither company can use the name of Trigene now, Tristel Solutions do own the Trigene formulation, haven't changed it, and are continuing to manufacture and sell it under the new brand name of Anistel.

I appreciate the names are very similar and this is confusing. The claims that Anigene is the same as Trigene doesn't help either!

If you'd like a sample of Anistel (along with MSDS, Statement of Manufacture etc which are openly available), to see that it is the same as Trigene for yourself, please do let me know and I'd be happy to arrange. Also please feel free to contact me directly if you'd like some more information.

The same applies to other well known brands;

Anistel = Trigene Advance

Enzystel = Medizyme

Medistel = Meddis

Airstel = Airgene

Dermastel = skin scrub brands such as Medihex-4, Mediscrub Nursing Hands etc.

Odostel = Odogene

I seem to be allergic to many things at the moment- anigene is one of them and symptoms are as described above- a tight chest.

Pet Fresh is the worst culprit for me... and today I think I might be allergic to the new surgical masks we have as my nose/mouth became pruritic!

Think I might ask about getting trigene back.

We had the same problem with people complaining of of tight chests until we checked the dilution rate. The nurses were expecting it to have some colour to it so made it up too strong. Once diluted correctly we have had no problems either. (I would have expected the company to be able to suggest that to you when you rang them!)

I'm a bit late to the party but yes, Tristel do own the formulation to Trigene, and it has now been rebranded as Anistel. No change to formulation & same dilution rates.

our nurses seemed to be of the opinion the stronger it looked the better until one of them gave me an asthma attack by spraying it too liberally around the dental room and then one of my clients nearly collapsed and had to be taken outside due to chest pains because the nurse had been cleaning my consulting room just before I called that consult through - he was quite an old man - i thought he was having a heart attack until I recognised the familiar tightness in my own chest. Had a word with head nurse and she reinforced that it only needed half a pump and was meant to look clear not the same colour as the neat stuff! Have been fine breathing wise since correct dilutions used.

In our place it's the opposite, with a couple of staff members simply topping up the bottles with water because they are too bl**dy lazy to fill them with the ready-diluted trigene (or maybe they're closet homeopaths and think that water with a vague memory of trigene is effective). At least with trigene you could tell which bottles were useless by comparing the colours but anigene is so pale it looks like water anyway.

We have found the Anigene much better than Trigene, not least because it contains detergent so is multipurpose.

There has been a long-lasting saga of bad feeling and possible 'dirty' tricks around companies associated with Trigene. Get the dilution right and the products are fine and you potentially save money!

The temptation that one pump does good so two pumps must be better!

The issue will be the dilution factor. check who did it and how they did it, and replace the solution in the bottles. Training is important, we had a staff member who seemed to think stronger was better and made up trigene too strong, and yes it causes coughs and wheezes if it is.

Check the dilution they are using. It gets the back of the throat a bit when it is made up a bit over-enthusiastically!

Generally the consensus here is that it is a far better cleaner than Trigene.

We use Anigene at one of our branches with a smaller consulting room, and it makes me cough, and clients have noticed it too

I think Tristel do the original formulation of Trigene - at least they had a load of advertising going around saying that!
