I am a qualified veterinary surgeon from Pakistan. After graduation I have done little bit of practice and than came in UK but due to different reasons I couldn't follow my career instead I have done Masters by research in general microbiology

Re: Need help in seeing a practice for preperation of MRCVS

For those who do not know, the MRCVS by examination is extremely rigorous, kind of like sitting 3rd, 4th and 5th year finals all in a week. It is also extremely costly, and requires considerable investment of time and effort as well as money. Seeing practice is important, but studying and practicing answering essay type questions is vital, particularly for those for whom English is a second language.

One should also bear in mind that the candidates are already veterinary surgeons. The exam is to ensure fitness to practice in the UK, and the standard required to pass is no more than that of a new UK graduate. The hard part is the breadth of potential material to be examined on, and ensuring one is ready for the exams requires thorough preparation.

Anyone who gains an MRCVS by examination has got it the hard way and deserves respect for that.

Re: Need help in seeing a practice for preperation of MRCVS

My 2p, but unfortunately for you there are a lot of clinical vet students asking everyone for 'seeing practice' and there are lots of newly qualified vets looking for jobs - so you're in a crowded market...

Re: Need help in seeing a practice for preperation of MRCVS

On a CPD course a couple of years ago I spoke to a vet who had qualified in Zimbabwe (I think) and was planning to sit the RCVS exams, he was seeing practice with Goddards in London (I can't remember which branch), so it might be worth contacting them if the location would be practical.

Re: Need help in seeing a practice for preperation of MRCVS

you're welcome!
Many thanks for your reply.Yes I have contacted RCVS for intention to sit and seeing practice.I lived for almost a year in stevenage before moving to loughborough and couldn't find any.The only other way is to join a veterinary school again but again it will be very very expensive.I thought that may be by using this forum I can dind someone around midlands.

Regards,

I know of another Pakistani graduate who was in a similar position as you. She saw practice and was helped out by Medivet south london (Richmond I believe) and is now working for Medivet Kingston (or was as of one year or so ago). May be worth getting in touch with her :

Have you informed the RCVS of your "intention to sit" and "see practice"? Once you've got the paper work sorted the RCVS may help you find a practice that other overseas graduates have used to gain their MRCVS experience prior to their examination.

More info on RCVS website.

http://www.rcvs.org.uk/registration/statutory-membership-exam/

Once you start "seeing practice" you would have to be under direction and supervision from a MRCVS and that can put a strain on the practice - unfortunately demand from students wanting to do exactly the same is always a problem especially as they won't get paid so your scenario is not particularly attractive to the vets.

Have you tried further south towards London?

Good luck
