It seems I must write prescriptions and can only use their recommended brand of nutritional aid for arthritis (not my preferred choice but, hey, I'm just the vet that runs

Re: Shared Adoption Scheme

We do work for the Dogs Trust through their Hope Project for the dogs of homeless people; the set rates are pretty fair (about halfway between our normal prices and our cost price) and they pay for any other treatment at our standard cost without quibbling, so I'm not sure I'd tar the whole of DT with the same brush.

Re: Shared Adoption Scheme

I do DT neutering, not for the owners who I think are a total waste of space, but to prevent more puppies being born into homes which obviously can't afford them Wish I could do the same for the owners

Pre-existing problems that require specialist treatment go to specialists of their choosing, non emergency on-going medication the client pays the first £25, if more I write a script which they redeem at the PDSA but I'd still charge the client a £15 prescription fee but they're not dictating what medication to use and I don't discount normal treatment. Notwithstanding how much the charity has, most of the adopters are middle class regular clients who earn as much or more than I do so its up to them to subsidise treatment if they want to, they took on lame duck to start with after all.

Re: Shared Adoption Scheme

I should say we do lots of charity work - we will care for strays until a home is found, we will offer our good clients good deals when they hit financial problems, and we offer discounts to small local charities where our financial support is appreciated.

I will not do discounted work for large national charities whose personnel earn a proper wage (as they should), who advertise that they provide vet care to all animals in need, yet the local vet, who is the one who the general public feels is the root of the problem 'cos our fees are too high in the first place' is the one left footing the bill.

It all seems very long winded and I don't know why the new owner was not given a good supply of the drugs when the dog was adopted. I remember a time when we offered a discount or checked things for free and the charity said thankyou not dictating fees and proceedures
