Seems to be a worrying trend where people tread it all around the floors and it does look awful!

PS my answer to the OP would be to try Cif (or Jif or Vim or any other 3 lettered abrasive cleaner!) and a scouring pad and elbow grease. It's almost as much fun as getting the blue Diff-Quick reagent off lino...

[/quote]

Try KI first, the earlier after staining the better. Don't use anything that might have chlorine in it or you'll get the iodine stain after the KI, I promise.

Yes, me too, it's very painful if you take off as much as the average owner expects, and you'll never get the dog on the table again and get bitten if you touch a foot. I used to demonstrate the pain by a gentle squeeze of the clippers at the client's proposed length but I don't think any client ever appreciated my logic.

As an aside, you know how long canary's claws usually are! Can't be normal, must be trimmed!

Well in the wild they're just as long, much to my surprise, real half circles!

Re: silver nitrate on floors

Silver nitrate pencils sting like crazy. Try it on yourself the next time you have a suitabley oozey feline induced lesion and see how much you enjoy the sensation. No wonder dogs go nuts for claw clipping if they have had this stuff used on them.

Having said that I usually refuse to trim claws unless I personally feel they should be done. Said position arrived at the hard way, it is amazing how many clients simply think it is something that should be done at some random point in their pet's life, or refuse to contemplate taking more pavement walking instead.

Re: silver nitrate on floors

Don't use silver nitrate use Mutneys quick stop powders, our groomer suggested it and its fabulous.
Never had much success bandaging a budgie's toe and bandaging one nail on a dog's bleeding nail bed turns a drama into a crisis.

AgNO3 does work well though.

Could try the cut-throat shavers styptic pencil??
