OK - so let's do a trial run. I think x-ray systems are probably a rather complex subject to start with, so could everyone suggest a smaller, simpler piece of equipment or product which you would like to know how others feel about. Also, what questions do you want me to ask about the product? (i.e. ease of use, price, reliability, effectiveness etc.)

An issue is that your experience of a system will also be a product of the actual equipment and the reseller (given few if any people are buying direct from the manufacturer), and one may let the other down... To be fair if the equipment is good then their should be little need for support!

It may be simply because there are very few practices that compare more than one or two - they get a good deal, give it a try, keep it; or just don't do a rigorous scientific or economic case. "does it work? Do we like it? Ok, keep it!"

I've been disappointed by the lack of response on this request.

Maybe I didn't phrase the posting in an interesting way...? A survey might help?

The list is almost endless, Arlo. I think it's a great idea, but inevitably we will get onto the subject of...... computer software. This would get the opinions flowing! With Mike's comment about CR systems, we trialled several in our practice for months on end before deciding on the one we are happy with - how wasteful this is, thinking of dozens of other practices doing exactly the same thing.

Think this is something we could do relatively easily. Except that I'd need a bit of help constructing the survey (not sure what equipment we'd include).

Perhaps do it as an ongoing thing - for example, start with imaging equipment this month, then anaesthesia???? Then I don't know what!

We have an ex-NHS Fuji system which is absolutely brilliant but is probably not an available option so not much help there! Image quality far superior to my interpretation skills!

Hi Mike

We recently upgraded our old Idexx system which was slow, annoying, with poor image quality- this we realised only after getting 2 new systems to trial. Very happy now with the new system which is far far better in quality of images an ease of use. There was a US website which did a detailed review on digital xray systems available there some time ago- http://www.animalinsides.com/2008guide.pdf. Quite a useful checklist I thought to examine in detail the machine and software being considered..
