At first I thought of the anatomy/physiology workshop where they did the most amazing things with anatomy specimens and concocted Heath-Robinson-like machines for the physiology labs but that I am sure was on a sort of mezzanine floor above. The corridor that you mention was dark, drear and forbidding and mostly occupied by battered metal lockers. Sounds considerably improved.

Looks a bit like a posh shop, lots of spotlights and glass shelves etc! Nice and airy and open, although they did sacrifice our common room (which was relocated into a different basement room) for it

The old Pathology Museum at Camden, connecting the main building to the Institute of Pathology in the corner was transformed in the mid-sixties into a rather claustrophobic virology suite known popularly as 'the yellow submarine'. I don't know where the museum was relocated but it was never too bad, not smelly, well-lit and airy, just not very informative or useful!

Think it's in the PM room at Hawkshead nowadays. The anatomy museum at Camden has been revamped so is a bit less creepy looking now.

I've done the 'backstage' tour at the NHM as well, very very interesting

I don't remember the one at Camden but there was one in the path rooms at Hawkshead
Nothing more than a visit to the Hunterian museum at the RCS should show that these specimens should last a century or two before needing repotting.
Or the Spirit collection in the Darwin centre at the Natural History Museum - I've been on the little-known 'backstage' tours three times now and always find it fascinating. They even have some of the exact specimens Darwin brought back on The Beagle voyage - nearly 200 years ago.

Re: The Animal Remains of Anderlecht's Creepy Abandoned Veterinary School

It sounds all very Scooby Doo....

Re: The Animal Remains of Anderlecht's Creepy Abandoned Veterinary School

As a former pathologist, this sequence rather reminds me of a Discovery pseudo medical shockumentary - basically a wind up. A few of the shots show things that might be voyeuristically entertaining, most just show dissolving blobs of disintegrating tissue that have little visual impact.

Perspex mounted formalin specimens should be sealed. the reek of formalin so gloatingly described, is either lies or evidence of Belgian incompetence. Nothing more than a visit to the Hunterian museum at the RCS should show that these specimens should last a century or two before needing repotting.

Re: The Animal Remains of Anderlecht's Creepy Abandoned Veterinary School

The old museum at Camden was my favourite place at college. Wish I had a picture of the two headed calf. Many perfect dissection specimens from the 60's and 70's.

I think the pictures are fascinating and hope the samples are preserved somewhere.
