For us mere mortals that can't afford the im3 scaler I would just have kept the 'free' one as a spare and used the one I am currently using.

I'd have thought a decent air driven machine would do more for our standard of dentistry than the subtle difference between the sub £500 u/s scalers?

Are there 'bad' machines out there or are they much of a muchness?

Buy one with all the gubbins inside a clean, wipeable cabinet, that way no compressor/tubing covered in a fine film of oil, dust, spray blood etc.

I don't know about the Technik system, but I can highly recommend the iM3. I've had ours for around three years and love it. If you can stretch to it, it's well worth getting the 42-12 scaler to go with it - it's streets ahead of anything else (though it's not cheap!).

How much is one?

I have been quite tempted by the Vet Instrumentation one in their offer brochure - has everything you'd expect including fiberoptics (and a scaler) for £2750.

I am very tempted but not sure I can justify one (also having just bought a new autoclave!)
