A good air driven unit such as the Titan S can cost as much as an ultrasonic scaler.

We use both sonic and our trusty Bobcat but I was a bit shocked that the newer version of the Bobcat is £600+!

I would tend to think that a sonic scaler is safer than an ultrasonic one in the hands of a heavy-handed vet.
So its paid for itself after 4 procedures ... not a bad return/time ratio.

Don't buy a system with scaler included.

Buy the airdriven unit of your choice, buy the ultrasonic scaler of your choice.
For us mere mortals that can't afford the im3 scaler I would just have kept the 'free' one as a spare and used the one I am currently using.

I'd have thought a decent air driven machine would do more for our standard of dentistry than the subtle difference between the sub £500 u/s scalers?

Are there 'bad' machines out there or are they much of a muchness?

Re: Which Dental Machine?

Buy one with all the gubbins inside a clean, wipeable cabinet, that way no compressor/tubing covered in a fine film of oil, dust, spray blood etc.

Re: Which Dental Machine?

Don't buy a system with scaler included.

I don't know about the Technik system, but I can highly recommend the iM3. I've had ours for around three years and love it. If you can stretch to it, it's well worth getting the 42-12 scaler to go with it - it's streets ahead of anything else (though it's not cheap!).

Re: Which Dental Machine?

How much is one?

I have been quite tempted by the Vet Instrumentation one in their offer brochure - has everything you'd expect including fiberoptics (and a scaler) for £2750.

I am very tempted but not sure I can justify one (also having just bought a new autoclave!)
