Mavic (a French company) make the track wheels for most of the countries including Britain and France but Britain tend to cover them up with wheel covers soon after the race finishes. Dave Brailsford joked to L'equipe during Le Tour that the secret to British success is that our wheels are "round" and the French took it seriously. According to Chris Boardman the wheels are the same used in Beijing so it is either hard work by the cyclists or Chris Boardman has created magic elsewhere with the bike.

With Hoy's stunning ride GB now have 7 gold medals out of a possible maximum of 10 in the track events with a silver and a bronze to boot.

I'm taking 12 cycling families to France next week (past participants have been Scottish track champions) and following the French nit picking at every opportunity, will take great delight in dressing all the children in yellow and tying their hair in plaits

Laura Trott just took gold in the Woman's Omnium ( track cycling) having already won a gold medal in the woman's team pursuit. So she is now World Champion and Olympic champion in both the Omnium and the Team Pursuit disciplines, aged 20 years old.

We've just spent the weekend in London having got tickets to watch the hockey on Sunday morning. The hockey was excellent to watch but I have to say my highlight of the weekend was being in Potter's Fields next to Tower Bridge where they had a big screen up showing the Olympics - we were there on Saturday night and the atmosphere was just incredible. Hundred, if not thousands, of people screaming and jumping up and down and waving flags for all three of the gold medallists. And during each GB gold medal ceremony, when everyone got to their feet and sang along with the National Anthem, it nearly brought a tear to my eye So British!

Olympic Record from Charlotte! So GB now 1st, 3rd and 4th individually.

On a different note can I drum up some support (not that she'll need it) for Katherine Copeland who goes in the Womens Lightweight Double Sculls rowing final tomorrow (her parents are my former employers and fellow vetsurgeon.org members!)
