I expect the 3rd will need replacing in the near future soon as well. On top of this there is the added running costs of a new fluid pack every 6 weeks or so at around

Re: Alternative to VetLyte machine.

With the declining in-house lab work I doubt we'll be going for ugrading something new like the VetStat or VetScan, although if we were starting from scatch they'd be good ideas.

Looks like it might be a toss up between replacing the electrodes and upping prices or Mike's I-Stat.

Thanks for the ideas

Re: Alternative to VetLyte machine.

VetStat is idexx's latest electrolyte machine (also does blood gases and iCa) using cartridges like the iStat (also does one of the clotting times IIRC) or Woodley epoc.

I'd maybe go for Mike's iStat!

Re: Alternative to VetLyte machine.

I have an iStat and that works well, you can order different slides too to suit your needs.

I did have an epoc machine that was also good. The problem I found was that the slides went out of date and I was throwing them away. Also I needed urea for the post hib tortoises. Woodley promised it but it never arrived hence the switch.

I have a Vetscan biochemistry machine which runs sodium and potassium on a comprehensive rota, if I want just sod and pot then it costs a whole rota each time but that is still more economical than having an electrolyte analyser. If I need any other electrolytes I can send them to Axiom who have a mid-day courier run and I get results within 3 hours of pick-up
