I've only ever had two flat tyres in my life.
The second was this afternoon, whilst travelling at great speed to A & E with sick daughter having seizures in the passenger seat.

And you can't get replacements for existing BMWs very easily. Dunlop stopped making for my 59 model. New 1 series doesn't come with run flats. I know of someone who changed all 4 alloys because of the uncomfortable ride, as well as the other problems I mentioned. Fad that has come to the end I think. I wouldn't get them again. Not many cars come with now and it's difficult to get the for cars that came with them I have a 59 plate car that it is a nightmare to get replacement run flats for. They are also expensive and make for an uncomfortable rise. Plus big puncture and they still need replacing and - oops - no spare wheel.
Out of choice I'd always swap the tyre but if you are at the side of the motorway and you have lorries overtaking a few feet away and grab the can and go. Easier for my good lady wife too.
One other handy household tip for anyone else who finds themselves in my situation, changing a tyre in the middle of the road. However stressed you are, resist the temptation to offer a one fingered salute to any lorry driver that starts honking at you for being in the way.
