I agree - there are good people working locally so not going to make much of it. An inspector called today because it was thought we were going to do a press release about the story!

The nurse on duty has decided she is not happy with the RSPCA taking any part in the cats future as prosecution chances are virtually nil. I can see this cat coming home to add to the bedlam there! Yet another addition to the Russell family!

Re: RSPCA
We have let them know that the local paper is interested in writing up the story and I am quite happy to let them know how interested the RSPCA are in animal welfare!
The person on the end of the general helpline recommended that the cat was returned to the place it was found! Assuming an owner would not seal up a cat in a box and put it out for the binmen outside their doorstep this would have meant abandoning the cat in a strange environment. I suppose we could have resealed the box and left it to be crushed with the rest of the 'rubbish'!

At the moment the RSPCA are giving us the runaround. We have let them know that the local paper is interested in writing up the story and I am quite happy to let them know how interested the RSPCA are in animal welfare!

Lucky you Rajat - the RSPCA are cr*p around here!

They always pay for PPH fees and small amt totwards tx- £72 ish. This covers basic analgesia/abs/drip while we try to sort something. Great relationship with local centre who take in the strays that come in regularly through us and then pay for their tx till they are rehomed.

I think it depends a bit on yr local inspectors and centre- ours are awesome! Our local centre raises large sums of money every year through raffles, dog shows, and so on to aid in tx of animals as HQ doesn't give much.

As a charity, I think they do a pretty good job in 'my hood'!

HQ is another matter tho!

Fortunately we are also blessed with good inspectors and they will normally respond within a couple of hours during the day. I was interested in the last line though Cat - I don't think that we can absolve ourselves from such regard - did you become a vet to treat animals or make money? My first reaction is always the same as yours but when the red mist has passed I remember I have a responsibility as well and lets be fair £60 will cover your costs for some analgesia or euthanasia if the latter is the best choice at least until it can be sorted out the next day.

Re: RSPCA

Yep had 2 in last week cats brought in by public apparantly "sick". Asked for that in writing "we dont do that". VDS say could be trouble if it then gets run over. Luckily for me did a deal with the rspca to get to the rspca centre in exchange for a red eared terrapin which I can re home. Its like a game of cards....
There have been similar threads about the RSPCA washing their hands of cases which come under the agreed memorandum of understanding.

We cannot support the RSPCA and don't allow any collection boxes etc for them.
