Don't think so... whether it's funny or not isn't about the topic, it's about whether it's funny, if that makes any sense. Some comedians make me howl with laughter, whereas others leave me completely cold, regardless of topic. Such a personal thing, humour. I don't think any topic should be off limits. In a sense, the more contentious, the better, for comedic purposes! It's a great tool of subversion. The reason I don't like the cat carrier isn't that I think it's the wrong topic, it's simply that it's completely unfunny. At least, to my sense of humour it is.

Funnily enough I don't find Frankie Boyle very funny but its not his subject matter I just find he does a poor job of making it funny. I have always been of the opinion that the world would be a better place if the onus was on the offendee not to be offended rather than on the offender not to offend.

If you can make something funny then go for it, don't let a little thing like taste stop you.

The funniest sketches on TV involve animals, Dr Chinnery in The League of Gentleman comes to mind. The sketch with euthanasing the wrong dog, oxygenating a tortoise etc still make me chuckle. It doesn't mean I don't like animals.

If you think vets are bad, talk to a medic

I find many vets share a similar sense of humour, the question in my mind is

1) Are we like this and so decide vet/doctor college is the place for us?

2) Are we moulded into this humour as a coping mechanism for the job we do?
