There is no actual right to bank holidays - but the minimum is 28 days of which your employer can direct you to take some/all as bank hols. or am I wrong?

mine get 30 days - thats all I can afford - the extra 2 are their birthday (or in lieu) and an xmas shopping day

Officially, it's 5.6 weeks and like most employment matters is based upon a conventional 5 day Mon-Fri week. So there is no absolute entitlement to public holidays off, altough contractual clauses may have a role to play. 30 days isn't bad, it's around the modal point - affordability is an important consideration alongside remaining competitive in the labour market.

Re: Staff perks - drugs at cost price
20 days plus public holidays is indeed the minimum
20 days plus public holidays is indeed the minimum. Many employers increase the 20 to 25-30, usually related to length of service. Be careful though as some employers on the minimum are otherwise generous with time off for (e.g.) nativity plays. graduations etc (they don't have to) whereas other with ostensibly more generous allowance are 'stingy' with every non-work minute!!

Re: Staff perks - drugs at cost price

25% discount here, which means that its actually cheaper to get meds from an internet pharmacy. I think this is fairly common, but it is of course at your employer's discretion entirely. As you say, it is a perk rather than a right.

I don't think it counts as a benefit in kind if a discount is given as long as it isn't costing the practice money (eg given away free) or used instead of wages, costing the government lost income tax and NI. Even at list price the practice is making a small amount of money due to wholesaler/manufacturer/buying group discounts

Have you broached this subject with your employer or has this not been an issue you've thought about in the past?

As for holidays, I used to get 20 days plus bank holidays (or days off in lieu if a bank holiday worked) which is the legal minimum. After working 10 years in the same practice I suggested that another 5 day's holiday entitlement would be a nice way of rewarding my loyalty.

Re: Staff perks - drugs at cost price

we get all drugs at cost and procedures 10% off or cost price if we do them in our own time. obviously dont charge myself for consults lol. not previously considered any tax implications.

Re: Staff perks - drugs at cost price

I may be wrong, but I thought it only counted as a perk if it was below cost price - in that case the practice would be losing money to the staff member's gain (if that makes sense).
