Not a job I'd envy anybody, but kicking the door in in the middle of the night and shouting at the owners might have been one of the lectures

Re: Death Row Dogs

I have just euthanased an 18 month old rescued Staffie Cross. Certainly fits the description of a Pit Bull Type but is quite soft but very very bouncy. The owners are not very responsible so the dog wanders. It eats rabbits as well.

None of these are death row crimes but the rescue involved was happy to home this dog with a family with very young children. This is absolutely not the 'nanny dog' Staffie so was completely irresponsible. They have also refused to take it back.

On balance the options are to try to rehome (some chance!), send to a rescue for a life in kennels or euthanasia when the boys in blue attend to identify with amazing skill the Pit Bull Type! or a quiet and gentle euthanasia.

I think the Staffie should be on a register of sorts to ensure that they are ALL spayed/castrated by six months of age to reduce the overwhelming numbers of Staffies in rescue centres. I would fight the need to muzzle them in public but would not argue with the need to keep them under control at all times.

This is our true nanny dog! Both of the characters were snoring merrily - the dog more loudly! Our GSD was happily 'on guard' on the floor by the chair!

Re: Death Row Dogs

[quote user="james herriot lied"]I must say, though, I'm shocked.
With a title like that? from the channel that hosts Panorama?

Re: Death Row Dogs

Ah, that answers my question: when they do knock on the door, it gets a bit awkward. My apologies to the police - as I say, not a job I'd envy anybody. Wonder what the Daily Mail will make of it.
