Now I've moved jobs and the new practice has it so I'd like to go on a course to leran the basics. The hours count towards your annual CPD requirement, most referral centres will not charge (particularly if your practice refers to them) and there's nothing to beat actually seeing scans of a variety of conditions and being able to ask questions 1 on 1. Downside might be the randomness of what cases are in that day at the referral centre, ie. you might see less than you hoped, but you might see a lot.

I know Edinburgh's a fair step, but there's a day meeting covering practical ultrasound as below. If you're looking for a reasonably priced refresher, this might be a good fit - not too pricey. Disclaimer: I've never been to that particular day course, in fact I've yet to set foot in Edinburgh yet!

But better value than their non-practical offerings, IMHO. I'm sure I've paid off the ultrasound courses I've been on a number of times over; not sure the same for that course on odd feline endocrine diseases...

I've been on a couple of the Improve ones and they were very helpful. It was 4 sessions, one a month, and BCF lent us a machine from day 1 so we could go back and practice what we had learnt, which was great (we had the option to but the machine at the end with a discount). I was also lucky enough that we had a visiting specialist come to our practice every couple of weeks so I was able to continue learning. It takes time and committment to scan everything you can so that you can become really familiar with what is normal, and recognise artefacts and normal abnormalities. Don't feel like you will be a expert straight away, it really does take time, so concentrate on achieving the basics first.
