I guess Trading Standards would be the official port of call. TBH however, unless the website still claimed I worked there (and the answer to that would surely be to email the web-administrator?), if I'd left I'd forget about it and move on.

Re: website updating

Its quite a loose area it seems ! I think it would be quite difficult to regard a website as a legal document .
IIRC copyright law doesn't apply to facial images in England, I don't think you have any rights in law here. The ones to look out are your former practice - if their web site is out of date it would reflect badly on their image surely. Are you suggesting they are profiting in some way by leaving your picture up?

I know the parents of children who might be photographed at a school event are often asked to sign consent forms but that's for reasons of child protection, not copyright. I've never heard of an adult being asked to sign a release form at a public event although you might be asked as a courtesy if your image was going to be used commercially.

On the plus side how many hits can one of these websites achieve ?

Re: website updating

I assume that you gave your consent to your picture going up in the first place? Even if you just stood there and let them take it?

I would think that was your giving consent for them to use your image. That would probably be ongoing in theory as imagine if you could revoke it later, once the image is in the public domain you can't get it back.

Can you link to the page and we will ALL make you our wallpaper on our desktops for a week!

It has just spiked my curiosity as to general copyright law/ rules as these may apply to internet . For instance if you are photographed e.g. at a meeting , or a school or other public event a release form is signed for this . Its interesting that our images go up on the worldwide web and there does not seem to be any regulation .

Re: website updating

Hi Gillian , yes it must be inertia or forgetfulness surely one of those things I agree . Also , difficult to say if it is deliberately misleading as you say most likely inertia . But on the other hand , are there any rules over this area ? I have googled it and cannot find anything and was essentially wondering if there are any rules governing this area . I did not come up with anything in my search . I find it a bit strange that somebody can put an image on a commercial website and there does not seem to be any guidelines or rules as to copyright . I may be wrong but I am curious if anyone knnows different .

Re: website updating

I'm still listed at the practice I stopped working for 6 weeks ago. I do have the log in for the content management so could go and delete myself if I so wished.

I was just seeing how long I lived on in absence. Can't see it does any harm unless your role was very important to a practice (eg you're the only dermatologist diploma holder but the practice is continuing to accept derm referrals after you leave).

What is bothering you?

Re: website updating

I wouldn't think it becomes a legal issue unless the website administrator actually refuses to change it. Usually it is a combination of inertia and forgetfulness so a little angry nudge should be all that is required, surely?

If a website is deliberately misleading with it's staff list, and refusing to alter it, I would assume it is a case for trading standards? I can't imagine it would be a copyright issue.
