I'm looking for some input from new or recent graduates who are currently in the process of completing the PDP ? I am a 2011 graduate from Dublin, currently working in Northern Ireland in a very busy small animal clinic and I am considering

Re: PDP ?

Thanks for the info guys!

Re: PDP ?

[quote user="Adrienne McPartland"]

Did you start the PDP as soon as you started working - how long did it take in total ? What sort of caseload would you say your practice has ?

Our practice isnt computerised, so it would probably mean I'd have a good bit more difficulty inputting the data, would you agree?

I started it about 2months after I started working, and it took me about one year. We are 100% small animal practice so I didn't fill in any of the equine or large animal section.

I agree with Mark, if you made a note of your cases and clinical skills every few days then it shouldn't be an issue if your practice isn't computerised.

My practice is fully computerised but I never used the computer system for it - it seemed easier just to jot down what I had done every few days. The overall numbers aren't that important - its when you "feel competent". Your RCVS Post Graduate Dean decides if it's good enough at the end - once I had logged a bit of it, I asked mine to have a look and see if it was what they were looking for and took it from there.

It think it took me about 15months from when I registered but it could have been much faster had I just got on with it! My main motivation was probably being able to register to study for a certificate.
My friends who have successfully completed it all approached it in vastly different ways both from me and from each other!

Mark

Re: PDP ?

Did you start the PDP as soon as you started working - how long did it take in total ?
Inputting the numbers was a bit annoying, our practice computer system allowed me to scroll through the days I was on ops and it was relatively easy to fill this in, but I had to set aside time every 2-3weeks to update it.

Re employment, I think if you hadn't completed the PDP in the expected time that wouldn't look great.

I'd most definitely advise completing it, lots more positives than negatives overall!

Hope that's helpful!
