Erm..... I presume that the last time your RPA inspected was 30 years ago as well ....or is there a derogation from the Ionising Radiation Regulations for machines manufactured before they came into force ?

Erm...I don't have my X-ray machine serviced, it has worked faultlessly for 30 years apart from a dodgy switch lead which I replaced myself, there is of course a difference between servicing and safety testing. Developer was last serviced 2 years ago, I don't get it done unless something is going wrong but we have a local guy who use to work for Velopex and charges about £80 plus parts.

We have used Photon and generally servicing our decrepit Fuji processor, checking our main X-ray machine and dental machine was around £250-300. They were usually on-site for a couple of hours at least and had to improvise to keep the processor going. Thank goodness for digital systems!

Paying more does not mean getting better value. We have used them for years and been very satisfied with the service. I don't know if they go that far north. Some companies charge very hefty travel charges!

I wonder if it makes a difference how large the company is and how much it needs to take to make a living. We are all very quick to snarl at our clients when they think we charge to much. Just a thought. I think I pay somewhere between the 2 for xray + processor service.

We have our xray machine serviced by Tim Roddy of Astro Medical Systems in Bury for less than £150 inc VAT this year. Our processor ironically costs more at £308 inc VAT from BPS - based in Stoke..
