Owner comlaint: Blood in urine
Further questioning: Poorly fed GP previously - high concentrate diet, overfed on vegetables and fruit esp carrot and spinach and apple but a fair intake of fibre

Re: Guinea pig diabetes?

Transient 'diabetes' is common in GPs and they can have ketonuria concurrently, though not all will. Guinea pigs rarely appear unwell even with significant ketonuria so treatment of the underlying condition is usually sufficient. Diet is the most important factor and all sugar sources should be minimised (no fruit/root veg/treats) and high fibre foods provided. It is unusual for no PU/PD but if it has been on high fluid foods this may be more difficult to accurately assess (and never rule out owner failure to pick up details!).

Seems like you are treating it efficiently for now and I have yet to need to use hypoglycaemics/insulin once diet has been corrected. Force feeding may be necessary if diet change is not accepted well but if eating hay well there is no need for additional feeding.
