Sorry, stupid of me to forget; core biopsy 2wks ago, inflammatory tissue only, no evidence neoplasm; haven't swabbed as I don't believe its primarily an infection, not behaving like an infection i.e. gets completely better then erupts again.

We had this in a young retriever - eventually referred, turned out to be conformation (and or licking due to allergy) was pushing hairs in. So what I was seeing was an FB reaction but repeated many times and responded to treatment each time.

Dog now doing well on weight loss and treatment for allergy.
