himself to bits, peri-orbital alopecia, generalised coat thinning,
getting worse, no response to treatment with dexamethasone. When I took
on the case I was convinced it was

Re: Atrophic dermatopathy - help needed!

Sorry, i meant hydroxizine (ucerax is the brand we use). Stronghold i don't use much, but as long as you're using a mite killer you're either curing the problem or ruling out mites. :)

Re: Atrophic dermatopathy - help needed!
I'll try that lot & see if I can get hold of hydoxizine
Atarax or Ucerax are the brand names.

If it's that itchy I'd be treating for sarcoptes to rule out (it's cheaper for 3x Stronghold than the blood test, and the blood test needs the condition to have been going on for a while). But unless you've a diagnosis on scrapes or bloods you'll have a cat in hell's chance of E&L paying for the treatment!

Re: Atrophic dermatopathy - help needed!

Wow, such a speedy response, thanks Mark, I'll try that lot & see if I can get hold of hydoxizine.

I'd start advocate q2wks, because skin scrapes can be unreliable. I got caught out like that once. Atopy usually responds to steroids so tentatively i'd be ok with something parasitic. Sarcoptes has a blood test that's more accurate, try that. Finally, try hydoxizine instead of chlorphenamine - i think it works better.
