I've been treating several young guinea pigs with topical antifungals for ringworm. They are improving but slowly and the owner is frustrated. She's been looking online and has asked for a prescription for grisovin.

So if treating ringworm in guinea pigs, for topical treatment would Imaverol (off label) be preferable to the Mycozole spray - I've never been massively impressed with its efficacy? And topical vs. systemic treatment vs. both? Obviously and environmental control too...

Be a bit careful bathing piggies though, Ive had one or two where the owner has bathed them and they hav had a bout of ileus becasue of the stress. Give some meloxicam also and check Vit C supplementation.

Re: Use of griseofulvin in guinea pigs

I might try an Clotrimazole ointment in a single infected animal (and had good success with it before). But if there are several infected guinea pigs as described above I would go for Itraconazole, otherwise it just keeps bouncing from one to the other.

Re: Use of griseofulvin in guinea pigs

So if treating ringworm in guinea pigs, for topical treatment would Imaverol (off label) be preferable to the Mycozole spray - I've never been massively impressed with its efficacy?
