Maintenance on 0.5 - 2% iso depending on length of procedure and anticipated pain.

Re: Methadone and metomidine/ketamine combination

I always use iv midazolam and ketamine in old dogs for a quick premed cum induction (sometimes may need a little propofol). For young cats I use vetergesic or methadone with midazolam premeds followed by i.m. medetomidine + ketamine sedation. Propofol or alfaxalone induction only very small doses required and iso/O2 maintenance 0.5-2% would usually be required.

Re: Methadone and metomidine/ketamine combination

Think the Ozzies use a lot of Ketamine in dogs, we have some of them on the boards.

Eurovet rep I spoke to on Wednesday told me they are planning a series of CPD events on the use of their licensed methadone with an un-named expert.

I was always very much more impressed with methadone over morphine at college - lasts longer and no sick. Think we might give it a go despite the record keeping headache.

Re: Methadone and metomidine/ketamine combination

I've not experience of using ketamine in combination with medetomidine is smallies but certainly works a treat in some of the exotics we work with.

Re: Methadone and metomidine/ketamine combination

I cannot help much I'm afraid, although I would like to ask if we are just talking cats here. I use alot of medetomidine, use it most of the time now but haven't been routinely including ketamine in dog GA, although I do use CRI ketamine fro time to time.
