Client brought a kitten in on Fri evening, from a notorious local 'breeder'. Cat fine, but since its introduction, every other living being in the household has developed ringworm: other cats

Re: Ringworm pandemic

[quote user="James Laidlaw"]Can you still get Gris?
You can even get veterinary-licensed griseofulvin (for horses), either from Norbrook (Norofulvin: 7.5% granules or 33.3% paste) or Vetoquinol (Grisol-V 7.5% powder), though unless you're actually treating a horse and happen to save some for a rainy day, then the few granules you might want for a guinea pig or two (or whatever else) are likely to come at quite a cost and your local chemist might be more helpful...

Incidentally, unless treating a cat, a veterinary-licensed griseofulvin is equally acceptable under the cascade to a veterinary-licensed itrafungol (if you care about such things)

Re: Ringworm pandemic

[quote user="James Laidlaw"]Can you still get Gris?
I have no idea where she got it from...the lady smiled, touched her nose with a finger, and really did a Mary Poppins on me. I'll try to interrogate her again, but she's got this habit of pulling the impossible which comes in very handy sometimes! :) (No joke!)

Re: Ringworm pandemic

Itrafungol is expensive but I've had some good success in cats and small dogs with it.

Re: Ringworm pandemic

all studies I'm aware of say program is not effective against ringworm

Re: Ringworm pandemic

Anyone using program, or has that been dismissed as ineffective now?

Re: Ringworm pandemic

We use nizoral for some cases here (ketaconazole) and it works ok, but is expensive and can require multiple MONTHS worth of treatment...!!!

Re: Ringworm pandemic

Can you still get Gris?
