The guinea pigs developed scabbing on the dorsum of the nose, this is quite a large area. This has now spread to focal lesions being present around the eyes, near the mouth and on the ears. (Like us, they can't manufacture it)

The amount of vitamin C required by adult guinea pigs is about 20-25 mg/day

 Good luck

This applies to topicals too. They immunosuppress at the drop of a hat and this can open the door to other nasties days or weeks down the line.

Re: guinea pig skin help

Clotrimazole (Canesten) is not a magic answer, but is effective and very useful.

Re: guinea pig skin help

I agree, sounds like ringworm, which in G pigs is usually trichophyton metagrophytes which won't fluoresce. I use Itraconazole (Itrafungol) at 5mg/kg SID PO x 2 weeks. Environmental contamination is major problem - you need an effective anti-fungal disinfectant like F10. Micozole spray (from genetrix) unfortunately can't be used on the face which pretty much renders it useless in the majority of cases which have facial lesions.

Best wishes,
