I insist on anaesthetising small raptors. I will chip a conscious bird Harris hawk size up as long as I personally am confident that the handler is proficient enough. I inject into the caudal pectoral muscle to avoid the brachial plexus cranially and seal the site with surgical glue. As you are going into muscle there is increases chance of some bleeding (more common in parrots I find) There are some new micro microchips available for smaller birds now that I think I will start to use. Larger raptors can be injected dorsally at the base of the neck&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I know that some vets have implanted in the left thigh, to avoid damage to the flying musculature, but I have always put them in the pectorals.&amp;nbsp; I also do them under GA to avoid wriggling and excessive damage to the muscles. Apparently the vets above put them s/c without GA and I&amp;#39;m sure they&amp;#39;ve done an awful lot more than me......&lt;/p&gt;&lt;div style="clear:both;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
