I remember this happened a while back, and it was a bl**dy pain!

Is that their fault or the fault of the pharmaceutical company for touting their product prematurely?

Re: Fucithalmic hard to get - alternatives?

NVS seems to be constantly running out of medicines I consider essential. Not sure if this happens with all wholesalers - probably does, but it drives me nuts, as usually by the time I realise a drug is 'to follow', I've already told the client all about it and why i want them to use it. Makes it hard to be enthusiastic about the second-choice product

Re: Fucithalmic hard to get - alternatives?
Clinagel is a gentamicin in carbomer gel, it is apparently more toxic to the cornea though, but you get the same carbomer gel effect soothing the cornea which is often all that is needed.
Clinagel seems to be in short stock as well now, at least NVS says its to follow. If you just want the soothing effect of Fucithalmic try Lubrithal its the same base with the fucidic acid and in a much larger tube. Thats what I use now for my feline chlamydophila cases with Ronaxan tablets. Chloramphenicol eye ointment should still be avaialable. Clinadry from Nutriscience looks good when if comes into the wholesalers, the rep gave me some to try so I literally did - on myself, and from suffering itchy dry eyes due to contact lenses later in the day it gave me all day comfort. Now you cant do better that a real personal recommendation can you?!

Please supply for use within the practice:

List of items

For Animal Treatment Only

Vets Signature

Vets Name & Qualifications

This is not for a named patient so is not a prescription but keeps their paperwork in order. In effect they are acting as a mini wholesaler! This was how Boots suggested it was done.

If a client takes the paperwork to the pharmacy we write a standard prescription for a named patient etc.

Re: Fucithalmic hard to get - alternatives?
Pop round to your local chemist with a written order (not prescription)
Pardon my ignorance on this matter but what do you write for a written order? Fucithalmic isn't the only human drug I need to get for clients but I've not been sure how to go about it without writing prescriptions all the time.

Prescription required! The veterinary wholesalers are taking the p*ss when they supply human POM's. Pop round to your local chemist with a written order (not prescription) on headed paper and you can get human POM's for a fraction of the price. Make sure you check if VAT is charged or not, they often don't seem to be able to add the VAT on their systems!
