Obviously there are many analgesia options available, but I was wondering if anyone else is using a similar

Re: PLT not available - any similar alternatives?

Are many people using Pardale long term?
Sadly PLT is already pretty damn expensive, especially now we have 'generic' meloxicam and carprofen...

Re: PLT not available - any similar alternatives?
So far the tramadol seems to be working for them
Sorry should have said, the dog I'm trying to organise is already on tramadol, previous cocktail tramadol + PLT.
Why don't you just try the prednisolone on its own as it is probably that which is having the major pharmaceutical effect? Or Cartrophen if you haven't already tried that.
I did consider pred alone, there is only 1mg pred per PLT tablet, dog in question weighs approx 30kg and is on 2tabs BID, so pred dose v.low at approx 0.06mg/kg BID. Worth a shot though if Im totally stuck.

I spoke to the client today and we decided to try Pardale (paracetemol+codeine) and stay on tramadol.

Analgesia lecture at BSAVA speakers said pardale good and often overlooked for paracetemol, codeine dose not v.high at all so codeine component probably doesn't have any effect.

Thanks for suggstions, I guess it's 'manufacturing problems' like these that make us re-think our usual cocktails!

If you want to stick closer to the cascade you could use Pardale instead of generic paracetemol and it's got a bit of codine in for an extra kick

We have had quite good results with NSAI's and tramadol.

If you search the site for osteoarthritis there have been a number of previous threads on the options!
