female cat, non spayed, 6 months old, non vaccine came to our clinic with a distended abdomen.
We did scan, and there was no foetus inside, FIP test kit negative. WBC 27 over 19.5 . BUN normal. GPT normal. And we did ex-lap surgery

Re: distended abdomen in cat

Too bad, I didn't do any cytology on the fluid.

The peritoneum and pancreas was ok when we opened it up. Only some lessions and roughened on mesenterium. Oh, and yes GPT is ALT.

I'm still waiting the progress for another few days ahead. But if globs normal would be unusual for a florid immune complex disease. BTW Liverpool University offers FCoV immunochemistry on cytology samples of exudates/fluid. I don't have any experience of the in-house (presumed) Snap test?

We get our tissue biopsies, consistent with FIP, sent for IHC for FCoV - Macrophages containing FCoV antigen are diagnostic for FIP.

Re: distended abdomen in cat

I know its unusual, but unusual things happen quite often in my experience, and you can get a FCoV titre of 0 in wet FIP. Abdo effusions in cats have a varied aetiology and cytology is often non-diagnostic - have you performed cytology on the fluid to be sure?

Differential white cell count? is this a neutrophilia that would suggest an active inflamm focus - did the peritoneum look roughened or have any adhesions that would suggest a peritonitis? What did the fluid look like? Did you get a globulin level?
