It looked like it could be in the intestine and I did a FNA and sent it away. It looked pretty much like a tumour, consistent with what I saw on ultrasound, with the local mesenteric LNs noticeably enlarged. No other lesions found in the abdomen. Will let you know when the histopathology results are back.

Re: Abdominal mass FNA

All look like enterocytes to me :) but the presence of neutrophils in the absence of blood would likely be significant but it doesn't tell you where they are. i.e. lumenal, surface due to ulceration or mural due to enteritis. I would think the bacteria, being mixed, are likely lumenal but maybe involved in the lesion? FNA of intestines usually poor yield esp if you hit the lumen.

Re: Abdominal mass FNA

Exploratory coeliotomy booked.
the middle slide seems mainly monocytes with vacuoles, and the same amorphous debris

The bottom one i'm less sure, suggestive of some monocytes, some necrosed cells, and plenty of amorphous debris.

Hard to comment on bacteria from these photographs.

I would agree at this point there is no overt sign of neoplasia, but it cannot be ruled out and an exploratory is the way to go for a definitive answer.
