Phenobarb it depends whether I am looking to check if it is being underdosed or whether it is on a fairly high dose and I want to check if there is risk of toxicity if it is increased i.e. whether I want to know maximum or minimum level.

Re: Electrolyte monitoring.
Phenobarbital levels are advised to be checked 4-6 h post pill
I normally take them anytime, but an RVN I am working with insists it should be 4-6 hours post pill. I have never heard of this, and cannot find any mention of it in BSAVA congress or recent CPD notes. I think she may be getting it mixed up with Cushings and Vetoryl, but stand to be corrected.

I'd hope that electrolyte levels would not be affected by the time of dosing, as otherwise you'd risk having animals well controlled at some times of the day but on the verge of an addisonian crisis just before the next dose is due.

If this were the case then I'd assume that the best time to monitor would be immediately pre-pill(s!!!!) and that dividing the dose throughout the day would be recommended rather than uid

Re: Electrolyte monitoring.

Also anytime

Re: Electrolyte monitoring.

I measure them anytime as well.
