Very poor leadership and lousy government. There were plenty of people around at the time with experience of F&M but they were not listened to. Are they listening now?

So many many mistakes made by everyone at the top. It really was gutting. Memories that will never leave so many of the profession, the farming community, the army and countless others.

Not our professions proudest moment-so many things could have been done so much better-the veterinary profession lacked the will/clout to take charge-anyone could have been forgiven for thinking the only ones who knew anything about FMD were an organic chemist, an Army Brigadier, and Tony Blair who decided despite no veterinary training to take personal control and no one in the profession had the guts to tell him to back off,or else !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAFF seemed incapable of organising a booze-up in a brewery, and the downright lies were appalling-brought into the country in illegally imported meat-when the original pig farm was using swill from an army camp which was using beef from Botswana, and the strain of FMD was identical to that rife in Botswana at the time

yes made me cry on the day !! So few things can do that , but an enormous blow to the livestock industry on top of everything it had already faced did certainly do that !
