Are others having this problem, and does anyone know of an alternative for those chronic yeast-prone ears?

Re: Malacetic Otic

I love malacetic. Was very disappolinted to hear it was not available. Look up amazon.com for malacetic there's still some in stock. Alternatively you can get Trizchlor + keto wash which contains ketoconazole. Recent study showed ketoconazole may be mroe effective re yeast infections than clotrimazole(canesten). I buy enough stuff from amazon...soon we'll be getting all our drugs through them eh?

Cheers

I was told by a microbiologist at nationwide labs to use 1:10 water kills most things proteus, psuedomonas and malasessia but should not sting at that concentration. 1:1 seems a bit strong.

Maybe he was using pickling vinegar? Distilled (or white) vinegar is typically about 5% acetic acid. Concentrations of 2.5-5% are suggested in the literature as a topical ear cleaner. No 'stronger' than 'Malacetic Otic'.

Re: Malacetic Otic

Useful, isn't it?
That said, I'm not aware of any clinical trials documenting the combination of 2%boric acid and 2% acetic acid to be superior to simple 2.5% acetic acid (in spite of Dermapet's claims http://www.dermapet.com/bulletins/MalAceticDetail.pdf), which has at the very least shown to be safe in the presence of a ruptured TM (how many licensed 'ear cleaners' can say that?) and to be effective against Pseudomonas etc... I think I'll submit my licensing application to the VMD on Monday --> 'Veterinary Licensed Vinegar' - soon to be coming to a wholesaler near you

Re: Malacetic Otic

Thanks for that tip.

Blimey, if vinegar does all the things suggested here (removes skunk odour, stops dogs barking, kills fleas, gives your dog a sparkling coat, stops cats fighting etc....) then I expect it will shortly be licensed as a POM-V, packaged in expensive looking boxes and sold at 200x it's current cost. The cost of fish and chips may be set to rise....

Re: Malacetic Otic

I encountered this problem this afternoon also.
