Very happy with that. Was speaking to a Vet friend in the US and she mentioned that there had been some speculation on VIN that some Canine cases had resolved almost instantaneously after receiving Midazolam (not Diazepam) IV. Very interesting. Thanks all!

Re: Feline Vestibular Disease

My limited experience of vestibular disease in cats is that they do not seem as tolerant as dogs. Dogs tend to lie back and 'take it' whereas cats tend to panic and do dramatic rolling which can be alarming to watch!

Seems like treatment has already helped!

Re: Feline Vestibular Disease

I've not seen feline vestibular syndrome but as someone said, that fact its improved suggests thats a likely dx. The only thing i might have done differently wuold be to use midazolam rather that diazepam (if you have it) as diazepam can occ cause nasty liver issues in cats. Hope its doing ok now you're back at work-always good to find them discharged when you return!!

Re: Feline Vestibular Disease
Beginning to doubt my previous diagnosis
I think the fact that the cat is getting better with only supportive treatment suggests your original diagnosis is probably correct. I would only add to check its BP- if it is hyperthyroid, then hypertension can cause CNS signs.

Re: Feline Vestibular Disease

Nope, no sign of polyps that I can see. First place I looked...

Well, now around 4 hours after admitting, it's pretty much looking almost back to normal apart from a slight head tilt still present! Still mildly ataxic too but looming fab. Beginning to doubt my previous diagnosis :S

Re: Feline Vestibular Disease

If no obvious cause I have given them steroids, like dogs. Many don't like it but it seems to make them better. Can think of 2 cases off the top of my head, one we did bloods that were normal. Other too long ago. Both recovered despite steroids...........
